Virginia State General Elections, November 7th, 2006
Note: October 10th is the deadline to register to vote in the November 7th General Election. If you are not registered to vote, register now so you can vote in the November 7th General Election.
Ballot Initiatives: Delegate Robert Marshall and Senator Stephen Newman have proposed the Marshall/Newman Amendment to the constitution of Virginia. We voters get to approve or reject the proposed amendment this November. The exact text of the amendment will be:
That only a union between one man and one woman may be a marriage valid in or recognized by this Commonwealth and its political subdivisions.
This Commonwealth and its political subdivisions shall not create or recognize a legal status for relationships of unmarried individuals that intends to approximate the design, qualities, significance, or effects of marriage. Nor shall this Commonwealth or its political subdivisions create or recognize another union, partnership, or other legal status to which is assigned the rights, benefits, obligations, qualities, or effects of marriage
Registered voters will simply be able to vote yes or no on this proposed amendment.
Sensible voters will certainly vote NO on ballot question #1; this proposed amendment is a hate crime designed to drum up support for Senator Allen's failing big for re-election. It will write discrimination into the constitution, and it will hurt families in Virginia.
I am voting No on the first question, and yes on questions #2, and #3 (amendments to Virginia Constitution).
Within Prince William County, I have not yet decided on how to vote the bond issues, and would love to hear from you on them if you have information.
Offices being decided November 7th, 2006:
- United States Senator:
- George Allen (Republican), an ass. His unwavering support for the failed Bush presidency and total lack of regard for Virginia and it's people shows clearly in his track record. Throw the bum out.
- James Webb (Democrat), Ex-US Navy Secretary, Attorney, Author & Vietnam War Veteran
- Gail Parker (Independent Green), Gail is a frequent nominee, and that is to be respected, but she needs more issues than rail (which is a good issue), but there is more to a U.S. Senator. Vote for Webb.
- United States Congress, 1st Congressional District:
- Jo Ann Davis (Republican), has served the Bush administration and the corporations very well, it's time the people got a representative instead - vote for Shawn.
- Shawn O'Donnell (Democrat), Shawn will represent the people maturely and responsibly.
- Marvin Pixton III (Independent Green), Marvin is also a good choice, though I am endorsing Shawn because he is versed on more issues.
- United States Congress, 2nd Congressional District:
- Thelma Drake (Republican), an embarassment to congress; throw her out.
- Phil Kellam (Democrat), would be a wonderful representative.
- United States Congress, 5th Congressional District:
- Virgil Goode (Republican), this man should be in jail for corruption!
- Joe Oddoe (Independent Green), there is more to congress than rail
- Al Weed (Democrat), gets my hearty endorsement
- United States Congress, 7th Congressional District:
- W. Brad Blanton (Independent), has dropped out of the race, and endorses Nachman!
- Eric I. Cantor (Republican), Incumbent Congressman, voting records are online withe Washington Post and Project Vote Smart, I don't like his voting records.
- James M. Nachman (Democrat), Richmond City Democratic Chair & Attorney - looks like Nachman is the man to support
- United States Congress, 8th Congressional District:
- Jim Moran (Democrat), still gets my endorsement, though he did punch Stephen Colbert (a joke)
- Tom O'Donoghue (Republican), I applaud his service in Iraq but he does not represent the district.
- Jim Hurysz (Independent), When will Jim stop running for this seat?
- United States Congress, 9th Congressional District:
- Rick Boucher (Democrat), Rick Rocks! He needs to be voted for.
- C.W. "Bill" Carrico (Republican), deserves to get no votes at all; his vitriol makes even Bob Marshall seem sane.
- United States Congress, 10th Congressional District:
- Judy Feder (Democrat), Judy gets my vote and my enthusiastic endorsement. I hope that after a few terms in Congress she goes on to even bigger responsibilities.
- Neeraj Nigam (Independent), new candidate - who is he?
- Frank Wolf (Republican), needs to retire; he's 100% owned by corporate America and votes against his constituents every chance he gets; throw the oil puppet out.
- Wilbur "Bill" Wood (Libertarian), brilliant web site designer (or at least hired one), but the anti-tax/anti-public education stand kills LP candidates for me.
- United States Congress, 11th Congressional District:
- Tom Davis (Republican), about the only Republican I have any respect for, and he's done a lot the last couple of years to lose that. It's time for Tom to retire and enjoy is family some.
- Andy Hurst (Democrat), rocks the district. Andy gets my enthusiastic endorsement.
- Ferdinando Greco (Independent Green), We need to hear more about issues other than Rail from the Indy-greens.
- Virginia House of Delegates, 50th District (this is a special election to elect a replacement for the late Harry Parrish):
- Jackson Miller (Republican), this man is a RINO (Republican in Name Only). He is a neo-con out of the same anti-Christian right wing hate group as Bob Marshall, Ken Cuccinelli, and Scott Lingamfelter. Do not let this man represent Manassas.
- Jeanette Rishell (Democrat), a hard working woman with her finger on the right issues for Manassas, please vote for Jeanette over Jackson.
- Prince William County, Chairman of the Board of Supervisors:
- Sharon Pandak (Democrat) - Sharon is awesome, she has experience, and detailed plans for the county that will make Prince William a better place to live.
- Corey Stewart (Republican) - Cory talks a lot about stopping developers, but he's just say no campaign is not detailed enough and does not constiture a plan; this man would harm the county
- There may be other local races depending on your area, the State Board of Elections website has them listed at: www.sbe.virginia.gov.
